As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the software development and delivery of one or more key Python & Django-based open source projects including the core Nautobot open source project. You will guide a distributed engineering team and partner closely with Product Management to ensure high-quality delivery and engineering excellence. In addition, this role will serve as the day-to-day Product Owner for the team—owning backlog prioritization, sprint execution, and translating product requirements into clear, actionable work for engineers. This role requires the ability to lead a high-performing team while driving clarity and execution across the Nautobot open source ecosystem, with Product Management owning overall product strategy.

  • Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing distributed engineering team, including full responsibility for goal setting, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Own and prioritize the team backlog in close collaboration with Product Management and key stakeholders.
  • Own the team-level roadmap and detailed requirements, partnering closely with Product Management on overall direction.
  • Ensure delivered work meets quality standards and aligns with defined user workflows and acceptance criteria.
  • Own end-to-end software delivery in a modern, agile environment while implementing engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, that improve team focus, velocity, and quality.
  • Ensure optimal delivery and team efficiency by tracking key engineering metrics and proactively removing required roadblocks.

  • 5+ year experience managing and developing engineering teams in a modern software environment
  • Experience within a product-focused organization delivering open source or commercial software
  • Strong understanding of designing and building RESTful APIs
  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices and the SDLC, including the use of AI-assisted development tools
