QuikTrip, a leading convenience store chain with over 1,100 locations, serves millions of customers across 18 states, generating over $11 billion in annual revenue. But as they grew so did the complexity of their network. With a network spanning thousands of locations and devices, upgrading hardware at each location became a daunting task. Complex manual processes, the number of locations, and the potential for human error led to delays consuming valuable engineering time.
To solve this, QuikTrip partnered with Network to Code to deploy Nautobot as their Network Source of Truth and Automation Platform. Leveraging the SSoT app, Network to Code’s Professional Services Team integrated existing data sources and automated critical workflows, including hardware upgrades, OS updates, and breal/fix processes. The solution simplified upgrades, reduced manual steps and minimized errors for more efficient network management. Nautobot integrated with QuikTrip’s IT systems such as Anible and InfoBlox as well as equipment from Meraki, Citrix, Cisco, Palo Alto, and SolarWinds to automate device provisioning, network topology changes, and IP management.
A visual journey with self-service forms guided the team through each step of the process. With Nautobot, QuikTrip reduced their upgrade project from 3,600 hours of expert engineering time to just 225 hours–saving 94% of the time for these highly skilled experts. This is over 3,300 hours of additional network engineer time to dedicate to strategic tasks while automating routine work.
QuikTrip is expanding its use of Nautobot across corporate facilities, utilizing features like rack elevation and power feed tracking to streamline Network upgrades and operations. Additionally Nautobot device automation will play a critical role in supporting QuikTrip’s plan to roll out 100 new convenience store locations each year, ensuring efficient scalability and seamless upgrades.
